Italy is famous because of its food: pasta, pizzas and ice cream. There is a variety of food, all the fresh food, produced in Italy. There are hundreds of different pasta for example: spaghetti, tagliatelle, penne, farfalle, fusilli, macaroni..... The pasta is usually served with sauces. Green pasta is made with spinach and pasta. If you see the word "rigate" in a packet, it is because the pasta has stripes.
SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE
This food comes from Bologna, in the north of Italy. It´s served with a meat sauce. The spaghettis are prepared in 10 minutes, not in 20 or 30 minutes.
INGREDIENTS
1 medium onion
1 medium carrot
1 medium of celery
7 rashers rindelss streaky bacon
1 clove of garlic
2 tablespoons olive oil
450 g minced beef
400 g can tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato purée
pinch of dried oregano or mixed herbs
salt and black pepper
340 g dried spaghetti
METHOD
First, peel and chop the onion, carrot and celery finely. Cut the bacon into narrows strips. Peel and crush the garlic.
Then, cook the onion, carrot, celery and garlic over a low in a big saucepan.
After, add the minced beef and chopped bacon. Stir all the time.
Next, stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato purée and oregano. Add a little salt and pepper
Later, put the lid on the pan and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes. Stir it occasionally to stop it from sticking.
After that, meanwhile start to cook the spaghetti. Add a pinh of salt.
Next, when the water boils, gently push the spaghetti down into the pan until it is covered with water.
Finally, boil the spaghetti for 12-15 minutes. Drain it in a colainder over a sink. Serve straight away with the sauce.
